It's also a good idea to walk through both shelters every few days to look for your pet yourself.  The staff are busy and may overlook your pet, not recognizing her/him as the lost pet they read about.  Putting an ad in the local paper is adviseable  as well.  Each day your dog is missing expands the search radius by ten miles so don't stick to your neighborhood when looking.  Lost pet signs with a photo and the pet's name are helpful, too.  Good luck, and we hope we can help you find your friend soon.
